Name of the thesis: Hotel Thermal and the problem of heritage preservation of buildings constructed in the second half of the 20th century
 Abstract:
The student will work on a monograph of the hotel Thermal in Carlsbad, especially emphasising the development of its perception and evaluation in a broader social context and its related issues of heritage preservation. She will clarify the circumstances which lead to the decision to build a big festival and conference hotel with an outside swimming pool right in the historical environment of the city. Not only she will set the hotel in the context of the work of architects Věra and Vladimír Machonin, but she will also evaluate the hotel as an architectural unit and compare it to the style of architecture in the second half of the 20th century. Aside from the usual art-historical methods, she will also use the oral history method by utilising testimonies of direct participants in the planning and the construction of the hotel, especially of the architect Věra Machoninová. Furthermore she will reconstruct the development of the appreciation of the hotel by professionals and the public since it's completion until today. Parallel to that, she will focus on how the hotel was used in late socialism and during the rapidly changing property and economical conditions...

Pilařová, Zdislava ; Šafařík, Petr (advisor) ; Tomalová, Eliška (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the case of demolition of the Transgas administration buildings in 2015-2019 which evoked a broad discussion among specialist as well as public community. The Transgas buildings built in Vinohradská třída, Prague 2, are presented in the work in context with the development of the Czechoslovak architecture and urbanism of the second half of the 20th century. Concrete influences and circumstances that influenced the construction of the buildings and their architectural style ranging between brutalism, high-tech and postmodernism are described. The work focuses on the analysis how the process of declaring of the Transgas to be the architecturally valuable object proceeded and shows at the same time the controversial opinions expressed by the expert community. The bachelor thesis points to the crisis of temporary landmark protection policy by which the Ministry of Culture as well as other authorities of landmark protection refuse to protect the valuable piece of architecture because it represents the socialist era, which, as it is in the case of the Transgas, may lead as a result to the demolition of a valuable object. Keywords Transgas administrative buildings, landmark protection, architecture, socialism, brutalism, high-tech
Brutalist architecture of the 20th century and its didactic avail
Křížová, Eliška ; Županič, Jan (advisor) ; Dvořáková, Michaela (referee)
The thesis focuses on the icons of the czech brutalism who are nowadays often a subject of discussion. It aims to provide coherent outlook to the reader, not just a technical description of the building but more so the process of its construction from the idea on the paper to the its final state. It observes how the views have been transformed and the perspective of the public, which is oftentimes dimmed by the stigma of the era in which these buildings were created. The goal of this thesis is to extend the knowledge about qualities of the brutalist architecture among younger generation so they could make better judgement of what will happen to these buildings in the future. For this purpose there is a didactic elaboration that will introduce brutalism to the high school students. KEYWORDS architecture, 20th century architecture, brutalism, architecture in education
